bedroom dreaming

this is the color combo that i'm DYING to do in our bedroom. we registered for a deep red comforter set last year when we got married, but i've never been the biggest fan of red. i like it obviously cause i loved it when we got it, i've just starting getting tired of it and its only been a year...until i saw it paired with aqua, and white. ah, i just love it! so bright and pretty. this is an inspiration board from snippet & ink for weddings, but i can't help but picture this as to the solution in our red bedroom.



i found this fabric last night, but i wish it were opposite with the aqua as the background with red as the accent since our comforter is just solid red and it'd be way too much red if i used this. i just can't seem to find the right fabric. ugh.



the plan is to make a headboard with the fabric i find kind of like i did with our mantle piece but make 6 small ones and add some stuffing then make it into a grid like this:



i especially love how they have their initials above each side, and i'll probably steal this idea too. but i'd put J G cause J J might just look silly. :)

i get so excited just thinking about aqua pillows and accents around the room. and then i'd paint our old, ugly sidetables and ancient chest of drawers white to really brighten it up. can you tell i'm getting ahead of myself?? were in no place to redecorate our bedroom, but maybe we can do a little at a time. a girl can dream, can't she?

date night

so i was cleaning out my blog drafts and stumbled upon this one that i wrote about a month ago...who knows why i didn't post it, but it was done...so here it is!

i LOVE date night! i mean who doesn't?! i grew up with parents who regularly went on dates and i remember so clearly bc i was the one having to babysit. but i always thought it was so cool that as a married couple they "dated" each other. i always prayed for someone who would value that concept as well. thankfully, he came along.

today was a different date though. we didn't go on our normal evening dinner and movie date, well as least not conventionally. instead we've been talking a while about having a "double feature date." but it wasn't until this weekend when there were actually two movies that we BOTH wanted to see. this is very rare seeing that our movie taste usually is opposite. however, we both agreed on the movies and decided that matinees were the way to go. so around 1:00, we headed down to the movies conveniently down the road and bought tickets to:


it was HILARIOUS!! i heard mixed reviews bc they made the main character very intelligent unlike the original TV series, but for two people who had never seen the original, it was so great. steve carrell is one of my favorite actors and even though he basically always has the same character, it still cracks me up. the thing i liked most about the movie were all the little details they put in it to make it more entertaining. it definitely outweighed my expectations of it.

after get smart, we decided to head over to a new restaurant that is actually located right outside the theater called:




we had never been there before, so we didn't really know what to expect. we decided to sit outside bc it was FREEZING inside and we both like people watching, haha. weird? oh well. oh my goodness the food was so good. first off, their peach tea is to DIE for. i could see joel's face light up when joel asked for sweet tea and the waiter asked, "regular or peach?" haha it was great. he got the blackened tilapia, and i got the blackened chicken sandwich. both i would highly recommend. yum...my mouth is watering just thinking about it. so after we finished eating, we headed back over to buy the second ticket to:



this movie was SOOO cool. angelina jolie was born for movies like these. all the actors were pretty good in it and it made me want to go and shoot something. probably not a good thing. maybe i too am a master assassin but haven't had the training. i guess we'll never find out bc i kind of hate guns altogether. they're so loud and hurt you when you shoot. my papa used to throw water bottles in his pond and see if we could shoot them. really fun at first, but then it got old and caused more pain than fun, so i was over it. anyway...WAY off topic. overall, the movie was good, but get smart was way better. even my movie snob of a husband liked get smart over wanted.

and like always...the perfect way to end any evening is over a nice cold:


light of course with no whip. only 2 weight watchers points :) once i figured out that calorie count, there has been no looking back. i even have joel counting calories with me, haha. but its more like, "how many calories did i just have??....oh...dang...oh well!" at least i got him to stop drinking mountain dews!! yup. that's right.

tis the season...

to get married!! weddings are everywhere i look this summer. i LOVE weddings, so i'm definitely not complaining. the thing i enjoy most about them are how the brides and grooms personalities come out, what they value and seeing how happy they are throughout the entire day. well...that and the free food ;)

the first few pics are of joel's cousin jennifer. her and her new husband have been together for about 6 years. yeah. wow! but they persevered throughout their entire dating relationship waiting until this day. and it was such an honor to be a part of their special day. this wedding has been in the works for quite some time and she did an AMAZING job of putting it all together. i don't think i've ever seen such organization from a bride during her wedding. truly inspiring!

cute surprise for the groom from the bride...he loves milk with his cake, so what better than a milk fountain! as a fellow milk enthusiast i was pleasantly surprised as well :)


this is my favorite part of every wedding...who cares about the groom's expression when he sees his bride for the first time...i love to see his face light up when he officially has permission to go for the garter! bow chica wow wow :) too bad everyone else is staring.


this was another great touch to her wedding. she got all the relatives on both sides to send her their wedding day pictures. this is joel's grandparents, ruth and sonny. this is only the second picture i've ever seen of sonny (he passed away when joel was real young) and can see why everyone says that joel takes after him. i especially like this picture bc joel's wedding band was sonny's that he wore he whole life. this pic reminds me how special joel being able to wear his grandfather's ring truly is.


i just love this pic of joel's parents! so young...little did they know the two sons that awaited them, haha.

they didn't have a long reception bc who does after 6 years?! haha also, as you'll see in this pic, joel LOVES being that annoying guy that has about 50 petals that all get thrown on you at once. i think thats his favorite part of every wedding.

now for sarah's wedding! sarah's wedding was especially great bc she brought DIY to a whole new level. i wouldn't be surprised if the workers at hobby lobby knew her on a first name basis. i was in awe of all her ideas and how she pulled everything together for what she budgeted. she got married at the new bcm chapel and had her reception at none other than the LSU Faculty Club. it was cool being able to see what a reception there was like their from a guests point of view. i WISH i would have gotten more pictures of this one, but i coordinated the wedding/reception and was unable to go around like i normally do and snap shots. i had a lot of fun coordinating though, and it was great getting to hang out with both the bride and groom before their big day.

her centerpieces were real cute. she had 3 pics on every table of her, spencer or their friends and family, and who doesn't love gerber daisies??


her cake was so awesome!! it was funfetti! oh my gosh and sooooo good. i don't know what ashley did to it, but i'm not normally a funfetti kind of girl. maybe it was the lack of feeling in my feet due to my awful high heels that enhanced the taste buds in my mouth....but it was yummy!


ah the garter. see? isn't this one of the best parts of a wedding?!? they just look so happy yet shy.


wow. the groom's cake. it was 2 cheesecakes with different toppings to choose from. choc, strawberry, caramel...oh the possibilities!


i loved how sarah never felt pressured by normal traditions or other people's opinions. she thought outside the box and decided she wanted to show one of her and spencer's engagement pics at the sign in table. i loved the color that it added to the table and how the daisies brought it out. so pretty.


and oh how she danced. i still can't get over how amazing her dress was. but i also think im a bit partial to maggie sottero, all her gowns are just so gorgeous. and only sarah could get away with polka dots on her wedding dress....just lovely.


this pic cracks me up bc its like she's ready to move on to bigger and better things ... aka the honeymoon!


and there they go....she used bubbles, which were so pretty cause the wind wasn't crazy and they actually worked...and then there joel was with about 10 bubble bottles and actually threw them at sarah and spencer as they ran by...only he would think to do that.

so thats been my july so far. this weekend i have a wedding from one of my good friends from high school. i can't wait to see all my high school friends again even though it will only be a short visit. i love those girls. hopefully we'll get the hang out more before the summer is over...fingers crossed!
