list love

hi. my name is jenny, and i'm a list-o-holic. i can't get enough of lists or notepads that are so cute that make me think of lists to create just so i can write on them. currently on my desk at work, i have about three coordinating notepads and a super cute "to-do" list that i found online. they just make me happy. recently, i discovered how to make my own notepads, and i wanted to try one out myself. i figured the one we needed most at home was a grocery list. at the apartment, we had a special notepad we used and a certain place to put it. now that we're in the house, i had to think of another solution since i'm trying my hardest to keep our counters clutter free. so here's my little "how to" if you want to make one too:

design two on one sheet, print at home or local print shop (kinkos, office depot, etc.), and cut.

line up papers and cardboard backing (i used the back of an old yellow memo pad from college and cut it to fit...how notes from media law survived the move is beyond me). hold together with binder clips (i'm sure you could use books stacked on each other as well...just make sure the ends are lined up).

break out the rubber cement...if you don't have any on hand, it's only $3 at hobby lobby. however, i've heard that padding compound works way better...just a little fyi.

apply two coats on top.

go clean up the mess you've made so far while you let it dry.

tear off the first sheet because it's gluey and gross (i attached a messed up sheet, but a normal sheet of paper cut to fit would work too).

attach to fridge with magnet or leave on counter, then stand back and soak up it's beauty.

you're probably thinking "what's the big deal?" but let me tell you that a grocery list nearby is a must. i've always written down an item as i need it instead of just sitting down and writing a long grocery list before we go to the store. it cuts down on impulse buys (for me at least) and lets me know what i have on hand without having to search.

i really like how it came out and can't wait to start using it. i have so many other ideas for lists, but i must pace myself. i think my next list will be our "bill list" that i created. it's organized by month and has all our bills listed by the company with the due date next to it. we normally check them off as they get paid each month, so we both know which bills still need to be paid and to remind each other if the due date is approaching. it works like a charm, but now that we have a few more bills to add to the list, it needs to be redone. yay for me! what other list ideas are out there?? i should start a list...

i should be sleeping

i don't know what it is or why i am still awake (i smell like lysol and have grease under my nails from "operation clean apartment" earlier today), but between playing around for a friend's wedding invite and finishing up a fun project for another friend, inspiration struck. it came in the form of wedding invites, which is odd because i haven't had the urge to make mock wedding invites in a very long time. maybe its because me and joel's anniversary is quickly approaching? who knows, but i did all this work and figured i would share my ideas with y'all.

so that's taken up the last 2 hours of my night! i must get up and move now. they definitely aren't for everyone, so if some strike your fancy and some don't...that's cool too. :) i find it so funny when i think i know which proof people are going to go with and they go with the one that i almost didn't even include...it always amazes me. but part of the fun, nonetheless. i'll go ahead and put these up on my etsy site and design blog, so if you know anyone interested in invites of any kind, you know where to send them!!

header fun

so i've heard a lot about digital scrapbooking and realized that it's not that hard to play with. i'm updating my header with three new designs and will let y'all vote on the one y'all think i should keep. this one is my first as well as my first attempt at "digital scrapbooking," so let me know what you think! this one also is quite girly, but the colors drew me in. also, the pic is very old, but i realized that joel and i have zero good recent pics, so i might have to stage a little photo shoot. :)

i'll probably leave it up for a week or so and then change it out with a new one. have a great week!!

sew fun

i have officially used my new sewing machine that was given to me by joel's parents this past Christmas!! i've been wanting to break it out and make something but lacked the motivation and skill...until ashley that is! she needed to make curtains for her little boy's room and needed motivation as well. ashley has way more experience with her machine, so she offered to help me learn mine and show me how to thread it. after we took a trip back to my apartment (i forgot the pedal--just shows how much of a beginner i am), hobby lobby, and wal-mart, we got started. i got a tutorial on the art of pillow making and stuffing, and then i was on my own. it wasn't as hard as i thought, and i was so happy with how they turned out!

ashley was so fun to hang out with and cracked me up by talking to her machine and praying out loud that the thread would hold, haha. i have a feeling that new house will be FULL of pillows because they are the only thing i currently know how to make. hopefully, i'll venture out into other areas, but i think pillows seem very fitting for now.

here are some pics that ashley shot while i was learning. she's such a mom...and a great teacher to bet! :)

test

so i'm getting a little bored with my blog's design and wanted spruce it up over time. couple problems though. (1) i don't have time to even finish what's currently on my plate and (2) i have no idea what i'm doing. html code intimidates me because my college professor who taught it was just awful, i didn't learn a thing, and it will forever be associated with bitter old lady professor.

i'm testing out a signature and wanted to see what it looked like once posted. i doubt i'll keep it, but i was curious. i don't know how i feel about the orange.

school's out forever

so i'm way behind on posting as most of you know. but i wanted to share some pics of joel's recent graduation. we are officially done with higher education!!! **insert shouts of joy here**

this past may, joel graduated (again) from LSU...and added another diploma to our shelf. he received his masters in social work, and i can't express how proud i am of him for all his hard work and perseverance over the years. i thought four years was tough, but he stuck it out another two and finally walked the stage to receive a diploma one last time. during graduation, they urged the spouses to stand and be recognized for all the support and encouragement (not to mention the countless 10-page reports edited at all hours in the night) given to the grads. i have to admit that i got a little choked up because his masters graduation was something we looked forward to since we got married. seeing him clapping and smiling at me was a great moment that made me realize just how far we have come and how blessed we are. i never would have imagined us making it on what we had and having such a great time doing it.

since graduation, he started his first job (the monday after), was invited to come back to be a guest lecturer for one of his old professor's summer classes, and is starting baton rouge christian counseling in the next few months to do on the side. he still has to accumulate clients, but we are very excited about the opportunities that await him.

so here are some pics that i posted on facebook a while back; i know some of you don't have a facebook account, so enjoy!
