me and masterchief
**warning: month-old post i realized i never posted. sorry!**

so as some of you may or may not know, joel spent last weekend moonlighting as masterchief but in a very different setting than what masterchief is accustomed to. he was quite out of his element with screaming kids and loaded waterguns, but loved it just the same.
we went to the landry's birthday party for two of their adorable children, and paul asked joel if he wouldn't mind getting into the costume for when they bring out the cake. paul bought the suit online and originally planned to wear it, but realized at the party that he wouldn't be able to host the games and say the prayer disguised as halo's main guy. so, he asked joel if he would do the honor. it was like a kid in the candy store; joel was so excited!
he came out and the look on the kid's faces was priceless. some were amazed and excited, others confused, and then you could hear the screams of fear and saw the tears that followed from the little ones. masterchief isn't for everyone, but the birthday boy and his older brother were happily surprised and started playing with him right away.
some of the kids had their picture taken with him and then of course i had to sneak a kiss in. can you blame me? just something about green plastic and black polyester.
it really was one of the cutest things to see how excited the kids were to play and run around with "masterchief." there were water ballons, squirt guns, and super soakers reaking havoc on the landry's backyard. becky and paul are such great parents for making that memory. i'm sure the boys will always remember the time masterchief stopped by. the cutest moment by far was when masterchief had to "go back to his starship" (aka joel was beyond soaked), and the birthday boy turns around as the door closed behind joel, looks at his brother, and goes, "man, i already miss masterchief." so precious!!

new home
hey everyone! i'm still here, i promise! one day, i will get better at being consistent. i figured now was a good time to break down and post a pic of the house. we're not close to being done with painting and all that good stuff, so i'll post those pics as we make progress. my head is swimming with DIY projects and decorating, but that post is for another day! sooooo...here's our first pic with our house:

we have been here for a little over a month now and are so, so very thankful for the blessing of owning a house--one we absolutely adore at that! i could seriously live here forever. it's been quite an adjustment transitioning from the apt, but one that we're more than happy to make! we're slowly accumulating all the essentials of home ownership and have been so blessed by those around us with such generous gifts. joel is becoming quite acquainted with our lawn mower, and i'm learning how to cook on a gas stove...i couldn't even turn it on! i thought you had to use a lighter, so joel had to show me...how sad? we really are enjoying this time together though; everything feels so new and unfamiliar. overall, we are learning a lot, having fun, and trying our best not to rush things--something i struggle with. it's so exciting to be in a new place even if it is just 30 minutes from where we were in our old apt. :)
i'll be sure to update as we finish rooms, so slowly but surely, you will get a tour. :)

2 years! i can't even believe how fast it has gone by; i feel like we just celebrated our 1 year. we decided to try a restaurant that we've never been to--bravo! i've heard mixed reviews, but we both loved it! we took our time eating, people watched, got coffee, and looked back on our last two years. talking about our favorite highlights was so fun bc i was surprised to learn that our best memories weren't the same, haha. who knew?
after eating, we killed some time in the mall before getting dessert (half off at menchies after 9 M-Th! :) ) then went to borders to read where the wild things are from the kid section. the movie looks like its going to be really good. menchies was so packed by the time we got there, but we managed to squeeze by and get the deliciousness of yogurt and fruit for a grand total of $3! man, i love that place (kate, shout out!).
overall, it was such a nice evening full of great memories and laughing, and i tried my best to soak in as much as possible. i am so, so thankful for every moment that i have joel in my life, and i think anniversaries are an especially great time to vocalize that if you don't everyday.
