xanga...snap out of it!

my old blogging ground, xanga, is desperately trying to hang on to its abandoned bloggers. recently, they've said that they are deleting spaces that are inactive bc new users have a small selection of user names. puuuuhleeez! i don't buy that for one sec. mainly bc when i followed the link to keep my blog, xanga had set it up to where i had to follow 2 steps before i could get to my site.

STEP ONE: pick a background. why?? i was perfectly happy with my original one.

STEP TWO: post something. funny though bc xanga already had what my blog was going to say, which was "i'm bringing xanga back. drop me a comment if you're with me." or something along those lines. i'm bringing xanga back?? who do they think they are talking to? all the people i know who have strayed from xanga are people who have grown up and moved on to other sites. i can promise you they aren't tweens who appreciate the "clever" spin on that annoying song sung by top hit wonder justin timberlake.

anyway! i'm sure it will only be a matter of time until they "delete" my inactive site, so i figured i'd share the link with y'all.

i started blogging there my sophomore year in college and kept up with it pretty regularly. a lot of my friends now had one too, so you could probably find theirs through mine as well. its funny to compare my thoughts then and now. its pretty much like a virtual diary. so if you're interested, feel free to check it out!

baseballs and bobbleheads

the astros. oh the astros. the next cake i will make joel will probably be a hunter pence astros cake. he LOVES them! baseball has always been my favorite sport too, but i never really had a certain professional team that i loved or cheered for. well until i met joel. when we were dating i'd always watch the games with him (anything other than watching him play HALO), but i usually feel asleep by the 8th inning. but for some reason, since we've been married, i've gotten more into the games and just the astros in general. i know their names, positions, and stats. ok, i lied about the stats, but names and positions are a HUGE step for me. joel actually quizzed me the other day and i got 8/9 right. ok, so i kinda know their names and positions.

we recently had the opportunity to go to a couple of games with a few friends from church, so of course we jumped on it. joel always told me how much fun it was to be in the stadium, eat the food, and be up close to the players. i doubted how enjoyable he said it would be, but i was so wrong! i had a blast!! the games flew by, and watching joel get so excited was completely priceless.

he was so happy to be there, he made sure we got there when the gates opened so we could get the promo items that we always see on TV before the games. we got a craig biggio helment the first night then a bobble head of roy oswalt the second. i knew he was having fun when my penny pincher of a husband spent ALL his birthday money buying super long hotdogs, peanuts, cotton candy, large cokes, nachos, frozen ice, etc. you name it; he made sure i tried it. it was such a fun trip. i wish we could go back.

here are some pics from the trip:

where we sat the first night. they were great seats, especially during the firework show after the game.

our friend cody, aka our worship leader at church, who is always a blast to hang out with. he and joel kept me laughing all weekend.

astros win!!!! this is my favorite picture from the trip. i especially crack up at brandon in the background.

the walls. such a great and fun couple to be around :) kenny leads our community group and megan heads up the ring's amazing wives's discipleship group where i learn so much every month.

the soon-to-be hays! they're getting married in less than 2 months!!! can you tell i'm excited?!? brandon plays the drums in the worship band and kate has the honor of being one of my best friends. you're welcome. and i love you. :)

our seats the second night. having the tvs for us to see was a def perk. i kept catching myself watching the tv instead of the live game. it was great for instant replays.

notice how happy joel still is after the last game. so cute.

well that about wraps it up! lets hope its the first of many astro trips.

knock, knock

me and doors have always had a love, hate relationship. well, honestly, its more like a hate, hate relationship. yes, weird. but i always seem to have difficulty opening doors and usually end up smashing my face or hitting some part of my body when they magically open. its like i do the same thing everyone else does, but they seem to sense my presence and laugh at my efforts to open them. no? you don't believe me? let me give you 2 instances that happened just this past week:

instance #1:
so, i come home on my lunch break and finished up a little craft i had been working on. well, i must document it and take pictures. doesn't everyone? no? just me? oh well. natural light is muy bueno, so i go out on our balcony (we live on the second story), shut the sliding glass door behind me and start snapping shots. i realized i needed something from inside and go to open the door....only the bar that keeps the burglars out at night had somehow FALLEN from the top where i put it and was now keeping me TRAPPED on the balcony. here is an illustration in case you aren't following:

i thought "no way is this happening" i shake the door. nothing. pound on the door. nothing. ask the door to please let me back in my home. nothing. SO, after about 5 minutes of maneuvering and trying to loosen the bar that had so nicely wedged the door shut, i called our office at the apartment (THANK GOD i had my phone in my pocket). why am i not surprised when everyone in the office is at lunch? what kind of office are they running when not even ONE person is left to man the phones!?! ugh. i was so aggravated and of course it was burning up outside on the balcony. so, i called joel twice. no answer. couldn't he sense that i was in danger?!? my better half, my knight in shining armor...ignoring my phone calls! ouch. so i resorted to text and prayer. my text included "call me! i'm stranded on our balcony!!" i did laugh a little when i sent it imagining his expression when he got it. so about a minute later my phone rings and joel is laughing on the other end...LAUGHING! i demanded him to come save me immediately and after he laughed at me for a good while and told me how funny of a story this would be when he got back to work, he came to save the day. stupid sliding glass door.

instance #2:

so, i got approximately 4 hours of sleep last night. i don't know what it was or what was wrong with me, but i could not fall asleep. i tried everything. watched TV, played on the computer, sat and stared at the ceiling...nothing was working. eventually i feel asleep and was late for work this morning. well, i decided to take and early lunch bc i needed a power nap to get me through the rest of the day. so i'm walking up the stairs to our apartment, unlock to door and turn the knob. or well i tried to. the knob was STUCK! so then i tried to turn the key the other way (maybe i just locked it again instead of unlock it...this happens often bc i don't really pay attention to what i'm doing). nope still stuck. sooo i call joel. he answers first ring..."now he answers?!?" he tells me i bent something and it happened to him once and to just keep at it. i didn't have time for that. precious minutes of sleep were wasting away before my eyes. as i stood in front of the door of doom, all i could think about was the air-conditioned room with the soft sheets behind it. so i ran down the stairs and went to the office. thankfully, someone was there. i told her what happened, and the fix it guy was literally in his truck driving off to lunch. we both ran out screaming for him to wait. we caught him, and he came to WD-40 my door knob. i got in and had just enough time to eat a bowl of cereal and head back to work. why me???

chaos clipped in the bud

our dinner table at home drives me crazy! its always full of bills, coupons, and just random papers. i had enough and figured it was time to do something about it. i'm so organized at work (yeah, who would have figured??) and it just frustrates me when i come home in the evening to have the first thing that i see be the annoying messy table that never seems to stay clean. so i began searching for a solution.

i found these online on apartment therapy, another one of the blogs i read regularly, and thought they were sooo cute!

however, while they are perfect for an office, they didn't really fit with what i needed.

so i stole that idea and ran with it. i made my own clips with the help of some binder clips i had, file labels, and one of my favorite fonts:

i just love them! but i will say that these are my rough versions. i didn't have a lot of time this weekend, but i'll probably make some more when i can get a hold of some white clips and a color printer, but these will definitely do for now.

this one's my favorite. :) more so because of the feeling we get when this pile grows. now, joel will know exactly which bills need to be paid and which ones can be filed away.

i'm starting to like this whole organization thing. i find that i tend to think clearer and have less "cleaning freak outs" (as joel so nicely puts it) when everything has a place...and stays there.

old soul

i've often been told that i have an "old soul." i'm not too sure of all its meaning; i just assume it means that i like old or "classic" things. i know there's another aspect to it, but that i couldn't tell you...i guess i could look it up if i was really curious.

i read snippet & ink's blog everyday and they always have "daily insipration," they are all really pretty, but this one especially caught my eye. it's def been my fav so far (maybe because of the green and black combo which is one my favs), but there's just something about all the old things brought back to life by mixing them with new ideas that i love. and plus, who doesn't love Billie Holiday?
